Kayabe
This is a dataset of 209 MT stations. Forty-eight are scattered around the 2D grid of the remaining 161. These sites are on a 100 m grid of thirteen lines, with thirteen sites on each line (except the northwesternmost). The lines run SW-NE, and are lettered "a" to "m" from the SE to the NW, and the sites on each line are numbered "0" to "12" from NE to SW.
For MT-DIW3 and MT-DIW4 comparisons, participants can either interpret the whole dataset using 3D algorithms, or can take the two central lines from the grid - line "kbg" going SW-NE and all stations "06" going SE-NW for 2D methods. There are thirteen stations on each line, so this 2D dataset consists of 25 stations (station kbg06 is at the centre of the grid and is on both profiles).
The acquisition co-ordinate system for the grid was with "X" aligned along 150 deg, and "Y" aligned along -120 deg. The EDI spectra are in that co-ordinate system. HOWEVER, the defined interpretation direction is with
X = -30, and Y = +60
The responses in J-format are provided in that co-ordinate system.
The station coordinates are given in the header of each file. Also, for each line, and for the scattered 48 sites (kb0...), a profile file can be downloaded which gives the locations in UTMs.
The data are stored in J-format and EDI format.
NOTE: Data downloaded prior to 29 May 1998 are wrong. The EDI files had incorrect azimuths for the magnetic sensors, and also Geotools prior to version 7.2 mishandled data that were not at zero azimuth. So both the old EDI formatted data and the J-formatted data were in error.
