Fifth Magnetotelluric Data Interpretation Workshop
MT-DIW5
Rio de Janiero, Brazil, 18th - 19th August, 2000

The workshop will be held on the 18th and 19th of August, 2000, in Rio de Janiero. It is being organized jointly by Sergio Fontes and Alan Jones.

Arrival day in Rio de Janiero is August 17th. It is expected that all participants will attend the Cabo Frio EM workshop which begins on August 20th.

For this MT-DIW, three datasets will be examined.

COPROD2S is a synthetic dataset created by Ivan Varentsov and consists of two sets. COPROD2S1 is error-free, whereas COPROD2S2 contains added noise and static shifts.

The second is the corrected Kayabe dataset investigated during the MT-DIW3. This is a 209-station MT dataset acquired on a rectangular grid at Kayabe on Hokkaido, which is quite close to the location of the 1996 Onuma EM workshop. For this dataset, two perpendicular crossing profiles of thirteen stations each are defined for those who wish to use 2D approaches. The 2D models, when compared with the 3D ones, also will give us some information about bias errors introduced by 2D interpretation of 3D bodies.

As on the previous four occasions, we hope that papers on these datasets can be submitted to a special issue of Earth, Planets and Space, which is the . For an example of the first one, please go to MT-DIW1: Wellington, 1992.
